Aluminum smelting capacity in Qinghai, China expanded rapidly, with the advantage of low power cost. There are ten aluminum smelters in Qinghai province, and the total capacity has reached 2.405 million tons per annum till now. With aluminum ingot price dropping to the levels under RMB14,500/t (USD2,327/t), the smelters in Qinghai could earn limited profit even though their production cost is quite low. A few of them even can barely earn profit because of the inefficiency.
