Turkey's import of pig iron triples in Jan-Aug

According to the customs statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute, in August this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 159,788 tonnes increasing by 46.34% as compared to July this year. In August, Turkey's average pig iron import price stood at USD 539.44 per tonne decreasing by 3% or USD 15.75 per tonne compared to the previous month.
In January to August period of the current year, Turkey imported 709,380 tonnes of pig iron up 212.7% compared to the same period last year with an average import price of USD 534 per tonne. The figure increased by 18.6% or USD 83 per tonne compared to the same period last year.
Turkey's top pig iron source in August this year was Ukraine which exported 54,729 tonnes of pig iron to Turkey with an increase of 74% compared to July this year. Meanwhile, Russia which was Turkey's top pig iron source in the previous months, exported 44,904 tonnes of pig iron to Turkey in August decreasing 37% from July levels.
