Lead prices dropped greatly on both LME and Chinese spot market during April. The Chinese lead market became more volatile since the lead contracts were launched on SHFE in late March. It has been the slack season for lead consumption and some lead acid battery producers halted production in China due to the environmental concerns, so the demand for lead ingot weakened in April. Meanwhile, China continued to tighten up the monetary policy, leading to the decline of liquidity in China. Therefore, the lead ingot market appeared quite weak during the month.
