BEIJING(Asian Metal) 26-Jan-05 The current price of tungsten oxide has surged to around rmb86,000-87,000/t in recent days, increasing by over rmb3,000/t from the basis of around rmb83,000/t early this month.

A Fujian based tungsten oxide consumer reported that, recently, it is obliged to contract at the price of rmb86,000-87,000/t for tungsten oxide, which is expected to move up further in the forthcoming weeks. "At present, producers would not like to sign long term contracts with us, even at the current high level, because they estimate that the price would rise much higher in the coming months," a senior executive from the consumer told Asian Metal today, revealing that it purchases around 200,000 tonnes of tungsten oxide per month.

At the same time, a Hunan based tungsten oxide producer confirmed that, driven by the high tungsten concentrate price, the current price of tungsten oxide is around rmb86,500/t. "Recently, we have to make a price according to the quantity of tungsten concentrate that we can acquire," added the producer.

"Tungsten oxide is quoted near rmb90,000/t for the moment, which is too high for us to accept," a Guizhou based buyer claimed, adding the price would go up further in the near furture due to the strong demand and the high raw material prices.
