Sichuan issues plan to peak carbon emission for nonferrous industry

Sichuan has issued an implementation plan for the nonferrous metals industry to peak carbon emissions by 2030. The province expects the proportion of primary aluminum production capacity above the energy efficiency benchmark level to reach 30% and that for copper and zinc to hit 50% by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), with capacity below standard level basically eliminated. For the next five-year period, Sichuan set a target for the proportion of renewable energy used in primary aluminum production to exceed 30% and to make sure the nonferrous industry to peak carbon emission before 2023, with primary aluminum industry taking the lead in achieving the goal, followed by copper, zinc and other nonferrous metals successively.
