On January 31, a truck fleet loaded with around 300 tonnes of spodumene concentrate left Kamativi lithium mine in Zimbabwe and headed for the Port of Beira, with the first batch of 5,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate ready for shipment to China.
Kamativi mine is operated by Kamativi Mining Company (KMC), a subsidiary of China's Yahua Group, which acquired the mine as its first overseas lithium project back in December 2022.
With a total investment of around RMB1.8 billion (USD251 million), the project has a mining and dressing capacity of 300,000 tonnes per annum in the initial phase, which began trial operation in October 2023 . The second phase of the project, with construction already underway, will increase mining and dressing capacity to 2 million tonnes per annum and is expected to finish construction by June this year . When fully operational, the project would produce 350,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate a year and Yahua Group's lithium resource self-sufficiency rate would exceed 50% by then.
