Guangxi encourages imports of bauxite

China's Guangxi called for bauxite resource allocation made strictly in accordance with regulations and in an orderly manner, as well as the establishment of a control system of annual bauxite mining quota, according to a draft document issued by the local department of natural resources.

The document encourages companies to make deep processing of bauxite locally and tackle the difficulties in the beneficiation and smelting of low grade accumulation bauxite and sedimentary bauxite. The autonomous region will ensure bauxite supply to processing companies with a relatively complete industrial chain.

The document specifies that the total bauxite mined annually should not exceed the combined mining capacity of existing licences in the region, and the annual production of each bauxite mine should not exceed their capacity ceiling. The production cap of new bauxite mining claim should be in accordance with the control system.

Companies are also encouraged to use advanced dressing and smelting methods and make technology breakthrough to make full use of the bauxite resource, and companies that use imported bauxite will be given more mining quota in line with regulations.
