Guangxi Shagang Manganese to upgrade silicomanganese furnaces

Guangxi Shagang Manganese Co., Ltd. recently released the Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) of its submerged arc furnace technical upgrade and tail gas treatment project for public disclosure.
The company's existing project produces silicomanganese using raw materials including imported and domestic manganese ore, imported sintered ore, silica and coke, with electrode paste as auxiliary material, and uses dolomite to replace fluorspar as fusing agent to adjust basicity of slag. When completed, the project would have a production capacity of 150,000t of silicomanganese.
The technical upgrade project will transform all four 25500kVA semi-closed submerged arc furnaces to closed furnaces, one of which will shift to produce HC ferrochrome with capacity of 37,500tpa. When fully operational, the project will be able to produce 112,500tpa of silicomanganese and 37,500tpa of HC ferrochrome.
With a total investment of RMB120 million (USD16.4 million), the upgrade project doesn't require any new land and the construction is expected to take six months.
