BEIJING (Asian Metal) 5 Sep 05 – With many Guangdong suppliers halted production for the environment and safety concerns, market insiders showed more confidence in the European antimony market, and the price keeps rising.
A major UK trader claimed that he just concluded a deal of antimony with the price at USD3,800/t CIF Rotterdam. “The price had gone up very fast,” said the trader. “I believe the price will continue to go up, and the price of USD4,000/t is not far away.” Last week, the trader received offer at around USD3,750/t in warehouse Rotterdam.
According to the trader, the quote he received from Chinese supplier is around USD3,700/t FOB CMP. “With more China domestic consumption and less supplies this year, I don’t see why antimony price would drop in a short time.”
A purchasing executive of a major European consumer reported that the most offers he received are around USD3,800/t CIF Rotterdam. “We received these offer, but didn’t mean we bought at this price . However, I admit that the price had gone up, and will continue to go up for the next two months, as I understand that there are less supplies in China now,” said the executive .
The source revealed that the consumer still has raw materials in stock. “Although our production stopped in August, we are in the spot-market everyday, and we buy when the price is right.”
A Hong Kong trader told Asian Metal that he received offers of antimony trioxide at around USD3,200/t FOB CMP from Chinese suppliers. “The price of antimony trioxide starts to climb now, and I think those major consumers will accept the high prices of the raw material very soon .
