Expert review results of a survey led by Chengdu Institute of Comprehensive Utilization of Mineral Resources of CGS indicated a new type of rare earth deposit in Guizhou, China.
The paleocontinental sedimentary type rare earth deposit is discovered at the adjacent area of Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou, with an average REO grade of 0.39% . So far, nine prospecting areas have been found and eight targets have been identified, showing great resources potential . However, the occurrence state of "paleocontinental sedimentary rare earth ore" is very special as a large number of nano-sized rare earth mineral particles are embedded in the layered structure of clay minerals, which makes the separation of this type of rare earth extremely difficult.
Chengdu Institute has developed an environmental-friendly separation technology which can achieve a leaching efficiency of up to 92.1% and has successfully produced mixed rare earth oxides grading higher than 92% REO.
