NBS: China's rebar output down by 0.9% YoY in Jan-May

According to data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in May 2023, China produced about 19.93 million tons of rebar and 11.63 million tons of steel wire rod, down by 8.8% and 13.3% YoY respectively, while it produced about 17.88 million tons of medium-thick and wide steel strip and 3.38 million tons of cold-rolled sheet, up by 5.6% and 0.4% YoY respectively.
From January to May, the output of rebar, steel wire rod and cold-rolled sheet declined by 0.9%, 0.2% and 4.9% from the same period last year to about 96.94 million tons, 58.38 million tons and 14.57 million tons respectively, while that of medium-thick and wide steel strip increased by 8.4% YoY to around 83.43 million tons.
