A Shanxi-based bauxite trader reported that they might sell around 100,000t in May up from 50,000t in April as the supply would increase after many regular bauxite producers restarted operation. In addition, the purchase demand would improve as two major alumina refineries in Shanxi will increase production. "We lately sold around 50,000t of bauxite Al2O3 58%min Al/Si=5.0 at the price close to RMB470/t (USD68/t) Ex-VAT delivered early this month," said the source, adding that his regular buyers would increase the consumption volume next month. The source now maintains the same offer and anticipates stable prices in the coming week.

Based on the consumption capacity of 7.3 million tonnes per year, they would use over 200,000t in April, the same as March and hold around 400,000t in stock now. They consumed close to 900,000t so far this year and close to 4 million tonnes in 2022.
