BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Apr 23 - Discouraged by weak demand from downstream consumers, African columbite export market witnessed inactive inquiries in the past week. The current mainstream prices in the African columbite export market decreased to USD15.0-15.5/lb Oxides FOB Africa, down by USD0.5/lb Oxides from early last week. As most suppliers remain pessimistic about the market, insiders predict that the African columbite export prices would decrease further in the coming week.
"We offer USD15.5/lb Oxides FOB Africa for columbite 50%min and could accept USD15.0/lb Oxides for orders of no less than 10t at the moment, while we quoted USD16.0/lb Oxides and could accept USD15.5/lb Oxides for the same quantity early last week," said an African producer, who received no inquiry so far this week, while they received one inquiry last week. They last sold about 10t to a regular client at around USD15.5/lb Oxides in early April. As most downstream consumers remain inactive in sending inquiries, the producer plans to lower their price by around USD0.2/lb Oxides next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would decrease by around USD0.2/lb Oxides in the coming week.
With an annual production capacity of 200t, the producer expects to produce around10t in April, unchanged from last month. They produced around 100t in 2022 and almost 40t so far in 2023. They hold no stock now, the same as last month.
An African trader noted that they quoted USD15.7/lb Oxides FOB Africa for columbite 50%min and could accept USD15.2/lb Oxides for orders no less than 15t today, while they quoted USD16.0/lb Oxides and could accept USD15.7/lb Oxides for the same quantity early last week. "We just sold about 15t to a regular client at around USD15.2/lb Oxides early this week," said the trader, who received one inquiry so far this week, while they received two inquiries last week. As most downstream consumers hold wait-and-see attitudes, the trader would plan to accept a counteroffer of around USD0.2/lb Oxides next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would decrease by about USD0.2/lb Oxides in the following week.
