Tangshan Kaiyuan conducts maintenance on ferronickel production equipment

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Apr 23 - Tangshan Kaiyuan Industrial Co., Ltd., one major high-grade ferronickel Ni 10%min S 0.45%max P 0.035%max producer in North China, closed one furnace starting from the end of March for maintenance and expects to produce about 18,000t of high-grade ferronickel in April.
"We closed one furnace at the end of March to conduct maintenance, planning to complete the maintenance in June. We expect to produce about 18,000t of high-grade ferronickel 10%min in April, lower than the 21,000t or so in March," a source from the company said, adding that they now operate three furnaces.
The company has a total production capacity of 720,000tpy and owns four furnaces. It produced 234,000t of ferronickel in 2022 and about 57,000t in the first quarter of 2023, holding around 20,000t of stocks at the moment.
Mainstream prices of Chinese high-grade ferronickel Ni 10%min S 0.45%max P 0.035%max stood at RMB1,100-1,120/t (USD159-162/t) EXW this Monday, unchanged from last trading day. Insiders predict that mainstream prices of Chinese high-grade ferronickel would go down in the coming week owing to soft demand continuously seen in the market.
