Baotou Steel to increase NGO electrical steel production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Apr 23 - Baotou Iron and Steel Co. (Baotou Steel), a major producer of non-grain oriented electrical steel in North China, would expand the production from about 3,000t in March to around 8,000t in April.
"We restarted the production of NGO electrical steel early last month and just produced about 3,000t in March. The planned output for this month would reach around 8,000t," said a source of the company. In addition, they still have zero stock in hand at present, in line with last month.
Located in Baotou, Inner Mongolia and based on the annual production capacity of about 200,000t, Baotou Steel produces NGO electrical steel with grades of 470-1,000. The company produced about 3,000t of NGO electrical steel in Q1 of this year and around 60,000t in 2022.
The current mainstream prices of NGO electrical steel 800 from Baotou Steel stand at about RMB5,250/t (USD762/t) D/P in warehouse Suzhou, stable compared with those of last week. Insiders expect Chinese NGO electrical steel prices to go down in the coming week on weak demand from downstream industries.
