Sibelco (Germany) reduces the fused magnesia production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Apr 23 - Sibelco (Germany) Co., one of major fused magnesia producers in Europe, would cut the production of fused magnesia to about 900t in April due to weak market demand.
"Due to weak market demand in Europe, especially glass manufacturing industry, we cut the production of fused magnesia to about 900t this month, down by around 300t from last month," a source from the company noted, adding that they had a plan to decrease the production further next month.
Based on an annual production capacity of 35,000t of fused magnesia, the company mainly produced fused magnesia 97%min. Now, they hold about 800t of stocks in hand. Their factory is located in Australia and mainly supplies refractories to European glass factories.
The mainstream prices of Australian fused magnesia 97%min stand at USD600-650/t CIF Rotterdam, unchanged from the middle of last month. Although the market demand remained weak during the past month, most producers keep their prices firm supported by production cost, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of European fused magnesia would level off in the forthcoming days.
