SD Mining to expand bauxite production capacity

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 Apr 23 - SUN DA (SD Mining) SA, a major bauxite producer in Guinea, is scheduled to launch three new mining areas by late Q3 this year, when the annual production capacity would reach 11 million tonnes, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We plan to launch three new mining areas by late Q3 this year after the rainy season, when the annual production capacity would reach 11 million tonnes," said the source, who might produce 450,000t in April, up from around 400,000t in March based on the current production capacity of 6 million tonnes per year.
Focusing on sales by long-term contracts, they hold no stock now and plan to produce around 7 million tonnes in 2023, up from around 3 million tonnes in 2022.
Current prevailing prices for imported bauxite Al2O3 45%min SiO2 3%max keep at USD65-67/dt CIF China, stable from two weeks ago. Bauxite producers from Guinea increased production and prices face difficulty in moving up despite increased freight from one week ago.
