BEIJING (Asian Metal) 7 Apr 23 - Considering the unchanged prices from overseas suppliers, the majority of Chinese suppliers of South African manganese ore prefer to firm their prices. Currently, the mainstream prices of South African manganese ore Mn 36%min Fe 6%max Si 7%max P 0.03%max stand at RMB33.5-34.5/dmtu (USD4.86-5.01/dmtu) at Tianjin port, in line with early this week. Given the stable market demand and the high costs, insiders predict that the prevailing prices of South African manganese ore in China would stay firm next week.
A trader in North China noted, "We want to sell South African manganese ore Mn 36%min Fe 6%max Si 7%max P 0.03%max at RMB33.5/dmtu (USD4.86/dmtu) at Tianjin port today and we could not accept any counteroffers, unchanged from the beginning of this week". The trader disclosed that a client wants to purchase at RMB33.5/dmtu (USD4.86/dmtu) for 500t today, and they think they could close the deal by the end of this week. They last sold 2,000t at RMB33.5/dmtu (USD4.86/dmtu) early this week. Supported by the high prices from overseas suppliers, the trader has no intention to change their price and forecasts that the mainstream prices of South African manganese ore in China would remain stable in the following week.
The trader, always selling around 20,000t of manganese ore monthly, estimates to sell about 20,000t this month, in line with the previous month. They have around 100,000t of inventory now.
Another trader in North China mentioned that they quote RMB34/dmtu (USD4.94/dmtu) for South African manganese ore Mn 36%min Fe 6%max Si 7%max P 0.03%max at Tianjin port at present, and they could consider the discount as much as RMB0.5/dmtu (USD0.07/dmtu), on par with early this week. The trader received no inquiry today and they last sold 1,000t at RMB33.5/dmtu (USD4.94/dmtu) at the end of last week. Given the thin profit and the unchanged demand, the trader plans to keep their price unchanged and believes that the mainstream prices of South African manganese ore in China would stay unchanged in the coming week.
