Chinese calcined bauxite market sees stable prices

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 30 Mar 23 – Encouraged by the high raw bauxite prices, most producers kept their prices stable in the past week, although the demand from downstream market remained weak. Therefore, the current prevailing prices for Chinese calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.25%max B.D. 3.1min stand at RMB2,650-2,750/t (USD391-405/t) EXW D/P, on par with early this week. As most producers intend to firm their prices considering the buyers refused higher prices, market participants hold the view that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would keep stable in the upcoming week.
A producer in Shanxi quoted RMB2,500/t (USD363/t) Ex-VAT EXW D/P for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.8%max K2O+Na2O 0.55%max B.D. 3.1min today and could give no discount, unchanged from early this week. The producer disclosed, "We closed our last deal in mid-March when we sold about 200t at around RMB2,500/t (USD363/t)". Although the supply of the raw bauxite stays extremely short, considering that their buyers refused to pay higher prices, they determined to keep their price stable and predict that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would remain steady in the following week.
The producer, with a yearly production capacity of 100,000t, plans to produce about 3,000t in March, on par with February. Currently they have an inventory of nearly 2,500t.
Another producer in Shanxi revealed, "We held our price for calcined bauxite Al2O3 85%min 1-3mm Fe2O3 1.6%max K2O+Na2O 0.35%max B.D. 3.1min on par with early this week at RMB2,600/t (USD377/t) Ex-VAT EXW D/P and could accept no counteroffer". They have no 85%min 1-3mm now and they last sold out approximately 1,000t of 88%min 1-3mm within a week to a refractory plant at around RMB2,900/t (USD420/t). Although the prices of raw bauxite remain high, they plan to keep their price unchanged since their clients have little tolerance to lifted prices and believe that the prevailing prices of Chinese calcined bauxite would keep stable in the upcoming week.
On basis of a yearly production capacity of 250,000t, they plan to produce about 1,8000t this month, compared to about 1,6000t last month. They have about 10,000t in stock at present.
