Benxi Shentie increases S.G. cast iron output

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Mar 23 - As one of three largest S.G. cast iron producers in Benxi, Liaoning, Benxi Shentie Iron (Group) Ltd. (Benxi Shentie) estimated its output would reach almost 48,000t in March, up from 27,000t in February.
"We restarted one blast furnace in late February after its suspension for 10 months, so the output increased by around 21,000t to 48,000t in March," said a source from Benxi Shentie, adding that the demand from foundries failed to pick up as fast as expected. Their prices of S.G. cast iron went down by around RMB150/t (USD22/t) in recent one month.
Benxi Shentie owns an annual production capacity of 600,000t for S.G. cast iron and recorded an output of almost 330,000t in 2022. It produced nearly 47,000t of the material in the first two months of this year, holding no stock at present.
On Monday, the mainstream prices of S.G. cast iron Q10 in Benxi, Liaoning stood at RMB3,700-3,750/t (USD538-545/t) EXW D/P, down by RMB20/t (USD3/t) from last Friday. Given weak demand from foundries and falling prices of raw materials, S.G. cast iron prices would go down further in the coming week.
