On March 8, an agreement-signing ceremony was held in Qingdao, Shandong for the globally first seawater desalination lithium extraction project
It is estimated that there are around 230 billion tons of lithium resources in the sea. This project therefore has important strategic and realistic significance as it is expected to gradually help China alleviate heavy dependence upon imported lithium resources, gain self-control on lithium supply, extend the industrial chain of seawater desalination, and advance development of seawater desalination industrial clusters.
. To be located in the Baifa Seawater Desalination Plant under Qingdao Water Group, the project will go into formal operation by the end of December 2023 . As the globally first seawater-based lithium extraction project, it shows a new direction for lithium resources development.
