Yttrium oxide prices in South Korea slide

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Mar 23 - Sellers lowered prices in order to gain orders, so the current yttrium oxide 99.999%min mainstream prices in South Korea slid to KRW10,300-11,000/kg (USD8.2-8.8/kg) at South Korean ports, a decline of around KRW300/kg (USD0.2/kg) from two weeks ago. Insiders forecasted that the yttrium oxide 99.999%min mainstream prices in South Korea would level off in the coming week as sellers refuse to mark down prices further.
A South Korean trader revealed that their regular suppliers lower yttrium oxide 99.999%min quotation to about KRW10,600/kg (USD8.5/kg) at South Korean ports to them at present. Based on their experience, they could buy at about KRW10,300/kg (USD8.2/kg) now, while they couldn't buy at prices below KRW10,600/kg (USD8.5/kg) half a month ago. "We concluded our latest procurement late last week, when they bought 10t at about KRW10,300/kg (USD8.2/kg)," said the trader, who has no plan to purchase again in the coming week. They couldn't bargain for better prices from suppliers and predicted that the yttrium oxide 99.999%min mainstream prices in South Korea would hover at current levels in the upcoming week.
With a typical monthly purchasing volume of six tons of yttrium oxide 99.999%min, the trader expects a purchase volume of around six tons in March, with an increase of around six tons MoM. Their purchase volumes in 2022 and in so far in 2023 recorded approximately 72t and 20t respectively. They hold an inventory of about 12t at the moment, up by 10t MoM.
A South Korean buyer disclosed that their regular suppliers quote about KRW11,300/kg (USD9.0/kg) at Korean ports at the moment. According to their experience, they could buy at around KRW11,000/kg (USD8.8/kg) at present, while they couldn't buy at prices below KRW11,300/kg (USD9.0/kg) two weeks ago. They last bought six tons of yttrium oxide 99.999%min at about KRW11,000/kg (USD8.8/kg) early this week. "We couldn't negotiate cheaper prices from suppliers and foresaw stable prices in the South Korean yttrium oxide 99.999%min market in the coming week," said the buyer.
