American gallium metal import prices stay soft

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 3 Mar 23 - American gallium metal 99.99%min import market ran slowly over the past week as most importers refused to build more stocks in view of soft price trend. Currently, the mainstream import prices of American gallium metal 99.99%min hover at USD290-300/kg CIF US, down by USD10/kg from early last week. Market participants believe that the prevailing import prices of American gallium metal 99.99%min would keep soft next week due to lower export prices from both Chinese and European exporters.
An importer in American disclosed that their regular exporters generally moved the gallium metal 99.99%min prices to USD300/kg CIF US now and some Chinese exporters even could accept USD280/kg FOB China for firm bids, while most of the exporters still insisted on USD305/kg CIF US one week ago. They last imported around 300kg at USD305/kg CIF US at the end of February from Europe and earlier imported around 500kg at USD310/kg CIF US two weeks ago from China. The source said, "Considering that most exporters continue moving down the export prices to compete for orders, we forecast that the mainstream import prices of American gallium metal 99.99%min would go down further in the coming week."
The importer, based on a consumption capacity of 12tpy of gallium metal 99.99%min, expects to consume around 1,000kg this month, up by about 500kg from last month. They hold no inventory presently, in line with the end of last month. They consumed about 6t totally in 2022 and around 1.5t in the past two months in 2023.
Another importer in America noted that, "Our regular exporters generally lowered the export price of gallium metal 99.99%min to USD300/kg CIF US now and most of the exporters could not move down the export price further within this week." However, their exporters still refused to sell below USD310/kg CIF US one week ago. As they did not close any deal, they did not import gallium metal 99.99%min since the middle of last month. They last imported around 500kg at USD330/kg CIF US early last month. In view of declining export prices from exporters, they are of the opinion that the mainstream import prices of American gallium metal 99.99%min would soften next week.
The trader, based on a regular monthly trading volume of 500t of gallium metal 99.99%min, holds no stocks now, unchanged from the end of last month. They expect to sell around 500kg this month, the same as last month. They sold around 7t in 2022.
