Ferrovanadium markets to rebound

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Aug 05 - The dropping vanadium price in the past months might be over now, and the it has already shown signs to rebounding this week, market participants reported.
A Shanghai-based trader told Asian Metal. "I think the ferrovanadium price began rebounding this week," said the trader. "The material supply is very tight." The trader is interested purchasing a batch of ferrovanadium 80% for USD34/kg, but they cannot find sellers now.
"A producer promised yesterday to sell us a batch of the material at USD34/kg," said the trader. "But today they told me they have no material in stock."
The trader has enquired other producers, some of them have no inventory and can only supply the material in the middle of September, and others do not quote at all.
Meanwhile, a Sichuan-based producer confirmed that the vanadium price has rebounded this week. The producer sold vanadium pentoxide for USD7/lb last week, and a trader is interested purchasing 60t of vanadium pentoxide for USD8/lb now. "We can only sell 20t of the material to him," said the producer. "Because I believe the price will continue to rise in the following weeks."
Some traders expected to obtain ferrovanadium 80% for USD35/kg, but the producer declined. "We now quote USD40/kg for ferrovanadium 80%," said the producer, "and can not accept anything below this price."
The producer is reluctant to sell ferrovanadium 50% below RMB135,000/t in Chinese domestic markets. "Steel mills have no interests in prices above RMB180,000/t for ferrovanadium 50%," said the producer. "But I think they can accept prices above RMB150,000/t."
The producer also sell vanadium pentoxide flake in Chinese domestic markets and can not accept prices below RMB125,000/t.
