Shandong aims to cut its total energy consumption per unit of gross regional product by more than 15.5% from 2020 and strive to reach the national average level by 2025, with the emission of chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen, nitrogen oxide and volatile organic compound (VOC) cut by at least 190.1kt, 7.6kt, 150.7kt ad 95.2kt respectively, according to an implementation plan for energy conservation and emission reduction for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) issued by the government on November 3.
The Plan calls for a further optimization of Shandong's energy structure with power supply from outside the province to surpass 150 billion kWh, aiming for 170 billion kWh by 2025. In addition, the province aims to increase the share of non-fossil energy in total energy consumption to around 13% by the end of the five-year period.
