1. Market Highlights
Upon weak demand from downstream industries and firm cost from raw materials, wire rod and rebar prices in Chinese major regions fluctuated frequently in August and did not show big changes. Steel mills became a little more active in production supported by more profits than that in July. Due to firm cost and weak demand from overseas market, rebar export prices showed some signs of leveling off this month. Wire rod export prices went down slightly up more fierce competition in the international market.
In the international market, wire rod and rebar prices in some Asian countries such as Malaysia continued on the decline due to weak demand from downstream industries, while the markdown narrowed after the continuously sharp decline in past two months. Those in India stopped falling temporarily supported by firm prices of raw materials. However, the demand failed to pick up yet.
