iTech Minerals recently discovered a kaolin-ionic rare earth mine in South Australia. The company says they initially focus on a kaolin resource for the project, but after reviewing previous drill holes, they found that in addition to the highly pure kaolin seen at surface, cerium widely exists in the clay layers. In addition, rock chip mining analysis revealed rare earth oxides in excess of 5%, indicating the presence of a rare earth-rich basement resource in the region.
