Global crude steel production down by 8.9% YOY in Sep

Global crude steel production from the 64 countries reporting to World Steel Association (worldsteel) reached 144.4 million tonnes (Mt) in September 2021, a year-on-year decrease of 8.9% from September 2020.
Data showed that China produced 73.8 Mt of crude steel in September 2021, down by 21.2% from the comparable period of last year. The production from India, Japan and U.S. increased by 7.2%, 25.6% and 22.0% YOY respectively to 9.5 Mt, 8.1 Mt and 7.3 Mt. According to estimation, Russia produced 5.9 Mt of crude steel in September, down by 2.2% YOY, followed by South Korea where crude steel output decreased by 5.0% YOY to 5.5 Mt. Germany produced 3.3 Mt, up by 10.7% YOY; that in Turkey recorded 3.3 Mt, up by 2.4% YOY; that in Brazil reached 3.1 Mt, up by 15.3% YOY. Estimated crude steel production in Iran amounted 1.3 Mt in September, an decrease of 51.4% YOY.
