US coal exports surge by 70.1% YOY in Aug

Data from US Census Bureau showed that in August, the United States exported 6.98 million tons of coal in August 2021, up significantly by 70.1% YOY and 18.1% MOM.
In the month, US exported 3.11 million tons of thermal coal, a sharp year-on-year increase of 133% and a month on month increase of 9.9%. It exported 3.87 million tons of metallurgical coal, up by 46.1% YOY and 25.6% MOM.
From January to August, US exported a total of 51.75 million tons of coal, up by 11.25 million tons or 27.8% from the same period last year. Among them, exports of thermal coal totaled 24.82 million tons, up by 57.9% YOY, and those of metallurgical coal totaled 26.93 million tons, up by 8.7% YOY.
