Global crude steel production down by 1.4% YOY in Aug

Global crude steel production from the 64 countries reporting to World Steel Association (worldsteel) reached 156.8 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2021, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4% from August 2020.
Data showed that China produced 83.20 Mt of crude steel in August 2021, down by 13.2% from the comparable period of last year. The production from India, Japan and U.S. increased by 8.2%, 22.9% and 26.8% YOY respectively to 9.9 Mt, 7.9 Mt and 7.5 Mt. According to estimation, Russia produced 6.3 Mt of crude steel in August, up by 4.4% YOY, followed by South Korea where crude steel output increased by 6.2% YOY to 6.1 Mt. Estimated crude steel production in Germany was 3.0 Mt, up by 6.7% YOY; that in Turkey recorded 3.5 Mt, up by 7.1% YOY; that in Brazil reached 3.1 Mt, up by 14.1% YOY. In addition, Iran produced 2.5 Mt of crude steel in August, an increase of 8.7% YOY.
