U.S . coal exports posted 7 . 487 million short tons in May, rising 9 . 9% against 6 . 811 million short tons in the previous month and 58 . 66% against 4 . 719 million short tons a year earlier, the data showed.
From January to May, the U.S . exported a total of 35 . 004 million short tons of coal, up by 16% from 30 . 176 million short tons in the same period of last year.
Total U.S . coal consumption in April was 34 . 296 million short tons, a year-on-year increase of 28 . 43% and a month-on-month decrease of 10 . 6% . Among them, coal consumption of the power industry was 30 . 104 million short tons, up by 27 . 43% year on year and down by 12 . 87% month on month; Industrial coal consumption was 4 . 137 million short tons, up by 36 . 22% YoY and 10 . 79% MoM.
