U.S. steel imports up by 14.8% MoM in Jun

According to the preliminary data from American Iron and Steel Institute, the United States imported about 2.897 million short tons of steel in June 2021, up by 14.8% month on month. In particular, the imports of finished steel reached 2.018 million short tons, up by 8.7% month on month.
In June, the United States imported most finished steel from South Korea, which recorded 274,000 short tons and moved up by 45% MoM. The country imported 117,000 short tons of finished steel from Japan, up by 22% from last month. Besides, it imported 98,000 short tons from Turkey, up by 46% MoM, and 95,000 short tons from Germany, down by 2% MoM.
From January to June, the United States imported a total of 14.688 million short tons of steel, a YoY increase of 18.5%. Among them, the imports of finished steel posted 9.995 million short tons, up by 15.6% from a year earlier.
