Xiangtan Electrochemical announced on June 25 that the company received the "Notice of the People's Government of Xiangtan City Regarding Permanent Closure of Xiangtan Manganese Mine of Xiangtan Electrochemical Technology Co., Ltd.". After the research by the People's Government of Xiangtan City, it has decided to shut down Xiangtan Manganese Mine formally and permanently before June 30.
The announcement shows that the mining area of Xiangtan Manganese Mine reaches 2.69 square kilometers, the mining depth is the elevation from 101 meters to 550 meters, the production scale records 150,000 tons per year, and the mining period is from May 18, 2020 to May 18, 2025. As of the end of October 2019, the reserves of resources within the mining right of Xiangtan Manganese Mine were 3.06 million tons. Up to now, the resource reserves within the mining right of Xiangtan Manganese Mine are about 2.6 million tons.
The announcement points out that the reason for the closure of Xiangtan Manganese Mine is that Xiangtan Manganese Mine has been built for a long time with the longer mining period. As the mining depth becomes deeper and deeper, the potential safety hazard is greater, the mining cost rises, and the ores mined have no cost-effective advantage compared with outsourcing ores. At the same time, the Yuhu Industrial Concentration Zone in Xiangtan City has been upgraded to a provincial-level Yuhu High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and the mining of Xiangtan Manganese Mine no longer meets the overall development and construction requirements of the Yuhu Industrial New City.
