Patkinson to resume HC ferrochrome production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 14 Apr 21 - Patkinson Enterprises (Private) Limited, one of major HC ferrochrome producers in Zimbabwe, would resume HC ferrochrome production in early June with the monthly output of nearly 5,000t, a source from the company revealed.
The source said, "We are maintaining electric arc furnaces now and would resume HC ferrochrome production in early June, expecting to produce nearly 5,000t." The source mentioned that they mainly produced HC ferrochrome Cr 58%min, C 8%max, Si 2%max but were forced to shut down in February 2020 impacted by the Covid-19. As far as they know, HC ferrochrome producers in Zimbabwe successively resumed production last month. They exploit chrome ore by themselves and the monthly mining volume is about 12,000t. At present, the price for chrome lump 40%min is USD70/t EXW, unchanged from last week. In view of the downtrend of chrome ore prices in Chinese market, they predict prices of Zimbabwean chrome ore would edge down in the coming week.
The company has an annual production capacity of about 60,000t and two closed electric arc furnaces of 2MVA.
On Tuesday, mainstream prices for HC ferrochrome Cr 52%min, C 8%max stood at RMB7,800-8,000/t (USD1,193-1,224/t) EXW D/P in Chinese market, down by RMB150/t (USD22.95/t) from late last week.
