On March 12, the HBIS Group issued a low-carbon green development action plan, proposing to achieve a carbon peak in 2022, a reduction of more than 10% in carbon emissions from the peak in 2025 and a reduction of more than 30% in carbon emissions from the peak in 2030, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
According to the relevant person in charge of the HBIS Group, in terms of the plan, they will build a hydrogen-based DRI plant with an annual output of 1.2 million tons of steelmaking raw materials in the Xuanshan Iron and Steel of HBIS . Compared with the traditional "blast furnace-converter" process, the carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 40% to 60% . Among them, the first phase of 600,000 tons will use furnace gas as reducing gas, which is scheduled to be put into production at the end of 2021; the second phase of 600,000 tons will use renewable energy to electrolyze water to produce hydrogen as reducing gas, realizing non-fossil energy smelting.
