European antimony price stabilized

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Jul 05 – The price for antimony stabilized in China during the last two weeks, and the price in European market also kept stable according to market participants.
An Italian trader told Asian Metal that they bought a batch of antimony ingot with the price at USD3,500/t in warehouse Rotterdam last Thursday. “The price seems stabilized between USD3,500-3,600/t in Rotterdam warehouse,” the trader said. “It is hard to get the material as some people intend to hold their inventories and wait for a higher price. Fortunately, I got some from my long-term relations.”
The trader believes that the increment of Chinese currency exchange rate had some possitive influences to the price. “Since Chinese currency exchange rate increased, the cost of antimony got much higher, and this happened at the time when the price for antimony was supposed to decline. As the result, the price for antimony keeps at this level, and I think it will keep at this price until people get back from their holidays.”
A Belgium trader supported this view. This trader bought some antimony ingot two weeks ago with the price at USD3,550/t in Rotterdam warehouse. “I thought the price would drop a little this week, but it didn’t. The current price is around USD3,600/t, and it didn’t change from last week. However, the market is quiet as I know.”
An Italian producer complained that the price for antimony is too high. “I can’t believe the price for antimony got this high, and no sign for a drop during the summer holidays,” said the trader, “anyway, I haven’t planned to place an order before September.”
