1. Market Highlights
Prices of section steel and steel pipe failed to continue the upward trend during the month, and they fluctuated frequently with narrow changes. Producers were eager to raise prices seeing the continuous price increase of raw materials such as iron ore and coke, but end users just purchased according to orders for final products and had no intention to build stocks, with wait-and-see attitudes. Besides, the downstream demand shrank day by day dragged by the cold weather as well as the approach of the Spring Festival (February 12). Reporting higher purchasing costs but the poor sales performance, traders remained cautious about supplementing inventories.
