POSCO announces supplementary purchase results for manganese flake for January

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 11 Jan 21 - POSCO, the world's fifth largest steel mill, released supplementary purchase result for January's manganese flake 99.7%min last Friday. The final price stands at USD2,443/t CIF South Korea, up by USD444/t from last time. They expect to buy about 2,622t, but the final purchase volume stands at 2,000t.
"We plan to purchase about 2,622t at the beginning, but we finally just purchased about 2,000t. We bought about 1,026t last time for January, so totally purchased about 3,026t at last for January," A source from this company disclosed yesterday, adding that the bidding quantity of POSCO dropped by 166t but the price rose by USD794/t from December. According to suppliers who participated in the bids, POSCO's purchase price higher than last month, mainly because most suppliers lifted their prices a lot and the freight increased.
POSCO, one of the largest steel manufacturers in the world, produces hot-rolled steel coil, steel plate, steel bar, cold-rolled steel plate, steel sheet with electrical conductivity, stainless steel products and so on. They usually purchase about 4,500t of manganese flake 99.7%min one month, and purchased 3,192t last month and 3,026t for January. With a purchase volume of 47,225t in 2019, they purchased 43,552t in 2020.
The current mainstream prices of Chinese manganese flake 99.7%min stand at RMB15,000-15,200/t (USD2,333-2,364/t) EXW D/P, up by RMB300/t (USD198/t) from late last week.
Currently, the mainstream export prices of Chinese manganese flake 99.7%min stand at USD2,360-2,390/t FOB China, up by USD60/t from late last week.
