Air Liquide signs long-term agreement with Steel Dynamics to support $1.9 billion steel mill

Air Liquide, a global gas company, has signed a long-term agreement with Steel Dynamics, which is building a $1.9 billion steel mill near Sinton.
Air Liquide plans to supply Steel Dynamics, one of the largest steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States, with oxygen, nitrogen, and argon to the Sinton plant's electric arc furnace, according to Air Liquide.
Steel Dynamics is slated to finish building the steel mill in late 2021 or early 2022. The Sinton plant is expected to produce 3 million tons of steel each year once operating.
To support the new agreement, Air Liquide plans to invest more than $100 million to install an air separation unit on its Gulf Coast pipeline network in Ingleside and extend its pipeline network to Steel Dynamic's site. The air separation unit will have the capacity to produce more than 770 tons per day of oxygen, as well as nitrogen and argon to supply Steel Dynamic's planned steel mill.
