1. Market Highlights
Chinese antimony products prices kept stable overall in June 2020. The supply of Chinese antimony concentrate was tight in the domestic spot market and prices kept firm as domestic miners cut their operating rates YOY. Meanwhile, it's hard for China to import antimony concentrate owing to inconvenient logistics and limitations on exporting the material in ports of Russia, South Africa, South America, Vietnam and other countries and regions.
Most Chinese antimony ingot producers could only make limited profits and kept their prices firm in June 2020 as they continued to keep low operating rates affected by stricter environmental inspections in Hunan, Yunnan and regions and the supply shortage of raw material; against this backdrop, antimony ingot prices went up amid stability during June in the domestic market. The international antimony ingot market also saw limited spot transactions during June as overseas buyers were reluctant to refill stocks owing to soft demand; as a result, antimony ingot prices went down in both Chinese export market and international market during June.
Chinese antimony trioxide producers kept high operating rates in June 2020 owing to less consumption volume of the material caused by lower operating rates of flame retardant industry and sluggish vehicle and chemical industries. However, suppliers kept their antimony trioxide prices firm due to high production costs as a result of firm prices of raw material antimony ingot; against this backdrop, antimony trioxide prices generally kept stable in China in June. Meanwhile, the international antimony trioxide market saw limited transactions and slightly lower prices.
Prices for ethylene glycol antimony kept declining in China in 2020. Most Chinese ethylene glycol antimony producers kept high operating rates, but downstream consumers held sufficient stocks of the material against the backdrop that downstream polyester industry showed no sign of improvement. Chinese ethylene glycol antimony suppliers were among fierce completion in concluding deals in June, resulting in frequently declining prices of the material in the domestic market during this month.
