The total imports of finished steel of the United States in 2020 are expected to be 17.456 million tons, which was 21 . 051 million tons in 2019, a decrease of 17 . 1% YOY . In addition, the total imports of steel products of the country might decline slightly from 27 . 937 million tons in 2019 to 27 . 556 million tons, down by nearly 1 . 4%.
Among all kinds of steel products, only steel ingots, billets and slabs, mechanical pipes and rebar might see a surge in imports YOY. AISI predicts that the number of pipelines might experience the largest decline, and its imports are expected to fall by about 57% YOY.
