1. Market Highlights
In March, Chinese manganese flake producers resumed production while downstream demand was weak. Orders from Chinese steel mills decreased obviously and market players were quite bearish about market outlook, leading to sharp decline in manganese flake prices . In mid-March, manganese flake prices declined at a slower speed restrained by production cost and the market turned better . However, as Chinese and overseas steel mills squeezed down on manganese flake prices and the pessimistic attitude of market players was intensified, manganese flake prices went down further . In late March, prices for manganese ore and manganese alloys rose sharply in Chinese market as South Africa was under lockdown . Chinese manganese flake producers and suppliers with stocks raised prices intentionally, but downstream customers didn't show great interest.
With rapid spread of COVID-19, some steel mills in Europe, America, Brazil and Russia halted production in succession and showed much lower demand for manganese flake in March, so export prices for manganese flake 99.7%min moved down.
