United Manganese of Kalahari (UMK) has declared force majeure on manganese shipments after South Africa imposed a 21-day lockdown from midnight on March 26 until April 17 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
UMK sent force majeure notices to customers on March 25.
UMK is one of South Africa's leading manganese miners, exporting just over 3 million tons per year of manganese ore.
