The European Commission recently announced the draft European Climate Law and decided to adopt legislation to reach the political goal of carbon neutral by 2050, which is to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.
As required by the draft European Climate Law, all EU institutions and member states have taken the necessary measures to achieve these goals. The draft also specifies what measures to take to assess results and a step-by-step roadmap to the 2050 target.
The draft also stipulates that the European Commission has the right to make recommendations to member states whose actions are inconsistent with the goal of carbon neutral, and each member state has an obligation to listen carefully to and implement these recommendations, and to explain the reasons if they cannot be implemented.
