Shanxi announces Blue Sky action plan for 2020

According to Department of Ecology and Environment of Shanxi, the local government on March 13 announced the Blue Sky action plan for 2020 which firmly calls for a crackdown on structural pollution. The province will push forward with the structural adjustment in industry, energy, transportation and land to significantly cut total pollutant emission for the continuous improvement in air quality, with economic development and environmental protection done simultaneously.
Additionally, the plan demands that Shanxi eliminate coking capacity by more than 20 million tonnes before the 2020 heating season. The province would push ahead with the relocation or shutdown of heavily polluting enterprises in urban built-up areas and surrounding regions. The verification and determination of coal washing and dressing companies (plants) shall be completed by the end of September 2020, with unqualified one to be shut down in accordance with the law by local authorities.
