1. Market Highlights
Prices for HRC and steel plate continued the upward price trend in the first half of the month boosted by the low stockpile, but they fell back slightly in certain regions in the last two weeks of the month. Generally speaking, the market performed more actively than that in November. Traders adopted cautiously optimistic attitudes towards the market prospect, and refused to build large inventories. Stimulated by increased profits, HRC mills were active in producing during the month, and major producers such as Baowu Group, Ansteel, Bengang Steel and Shougang Steel raised EXW prices for January production by RMB100-150/t (USD14-22/t). However, steel plate producers either slowed down or suspended production, and the supply was tight.
In the meantime, prices for HRC and steel plate increased a little in other Asian markets during the month, while the sales performance showed no signs of improving dragged by the insufficient demand.
