China, U.S. agree on content of first-stage trade agreement

On 13 December, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to provide update on the China-U.S trade talks. Based on joint effort and the principles of equality and mutual respect, China and the United States agreed on the content of the first-stage trade agreement, which includes preface, intellectual property right, technology transfer, food and agricultural products, financial service, exchange rate and transparency, trade expansion, bilateral assessment and dispute settlement as well as final terms. Meanwhile, the United States will cancel additional tariffs on Chinese goods in stages as promised and lower tariffs.
The two sides agreed to finish legal review and approval, translation and proofreading and other necessary processes as soon as possible and discuss details of formal signing of the agreement.
