Shanxi announces coking capacity reduction plan for five cities

On December 3, Shanxi government announced coking capacity reduction plan for five cities including Taiyuan, Xinzhou, Yangquan, Changzhi and Linfen.
Shanxi currently has annual coking capacity (approved) of 187.94 million tonnes, of which 147 . 68 million tonnes are already built . The recently announced plan requires the five cities to cut coking capacity of 37 million tonnes in total, nearly 20% of the approved capacity in Shanxi.
According to the plan, the five cities will shut down coking furnace with height below 4.3 meters before late October 2020 . By doing so, Taiyuan, Xinzhou, Yangquan, Changzhi and Linfen are expected to cut capacity of 9 . 7Mtpy, 2 . 5Mtpy, 1 . 2Mtpy, 11 . 2Mtpy and 12 . 4Mtpy respectively.
The plan requires related cities to ramp up efforts and take effective measures to complete the task of reducing capacity before the end of the year, and at the same time, to optimize industrial layout and speed up the transition and upgrade of large-scale coking project.
