Hebei completes the annual task of capacity reduction in six industries

According to Hebei Development and Reform Commission, the annual target task of capacity reduction of six key industries in Hebei, namely, steel, coal, flat glass, cement, coke and thermal power, has been basically completed. As of November 14, the province has reduced its steel-making capacity by 14.0255 million tons, closed 30 coal mines and 10.06 million tons, reduced coke capacity by 3.198 million tons and reduced thermal power capacity by 506,000 kilowatts.
By the end of this year, the steel-making capacity of Hebei is expected to reduce to 213 million tons from the peak of 320 million tons in 2011. The number of production sites with smelting capacity will be reduced from 148 to 70, and the number of enterprises will be reduced from 123 to 48.
In the next step, Hebei will adhere to the principle of "keeping pressure, closing small and developing big ones", and realize the transformation from total capacity reduction to structural capacity reduction and systematic capacity reduction. We will ensure that by 2020, we will reduce and withdraw 14 million tons of steel production capacity, 6 million tons of coal, 2 million tons of coke and 500,000 kilowatts of thermal power. By the end of 2020, the province's steel production capacity will be controlled within 200 million tons, and the coal and coke production capacity will be controlled at 65 million tons and 80 million tons respectively.
