Some Chinese steel scrap buyers are forced to buy replacements from other Asian countries as China's government restricts steel scrap imports, leading to soaring imports of steel billet and rough forging components in September.
According to data released by General Administration of Customs on Wednesday, China's steel billet and rough forging components imports recorded 370,000t in September, the highest of monthly records on the Customs website since June 2016, substantially up by 417.9% YOY . The country imported 260,000t in August.
In the first three quarters of 2019, China's steel billet and rough forging components imports reached 1.37 million tons, up by 53 . 1% YOY.
China imported less than 10,000t of steel scrap in September, and only 180,000t in the first nine months this year, largely down by 83.7% YOY.
